Artevani "Semi Dry" 2013

100% Saperavi
A still red wine from the Kakheti region of Georgia.

Rich and round. Nuts and dehydrated fruit.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, the 2013 Artevani Semi Dry Saperavi is dominated by toasty and sweet notes. Almond and walnut come to mind along side the sweetness from dehydrated fruits.

The mouthfeel is round at first to then evolve into astringency.

The finish is powerful and long.

The 2013 Semi Dry from Artevani will blossom with 8 to 10 years evolving in the bottle.

Saperavi

Varietal

Saperavi is an acidic teinturier-type grape variety native to Georgia, where it is used in the production of many of the country’s most well-known wines. It is also grown in small amounts in the Niagara and Finger Lakes regions of New York State and Northeast Ohio, as well as Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Australia. It has 3-lobed, wide, roundish leaves. The berries are medium to broad, elliptic or round, dark bluish, and thin-skinned, with a maturation period of about 5 months and moderate productivity depending on the form.

Natural wine

Natural wine is a term used to describe a widespread trend among winemakers to produce “natural” wine that is free of pesticides, chemicals, and other additives. It has a long history in Germany, where it gained prominence in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as part of the Lebensreform movement.
