A very pleasant bottle.
The 2014 Aria di Caiarossa from Caiarossa Estate opens on the nose with dark berries. It later shows spices and its tertiary character with cigar box and coffee notes.
The mouthfeel is elegant and structured.
The finish is long.

Caiarossa
Caiarossa is wine producer in the Pisa province of Tuscany. The grapes enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean weather, cooled by the sea breeze of the Tyrrhenian sea.
They focus on usage of varietals which are non traditional for the Tuscan region; using the classical Bordeaux blend such as other super Tuscan wine producers, but blending in other grapes such as Alicante and Syrah.
There estate has been certified organic and they follow biodynamic principles.

Cabernet Franc
Grapevine that yields black grapes used for wine
Cabernet Franc is a popular black grape variety grown all over the world. It’s mostly grown for blending with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Bordeaux style, but it can also be vinified on its own, as in Chinon in the Loire. It is also made into ice wine in Canada and the United States, in addition to being used in blends and grown as a varietal.

Dark blue-colored variety of wine-making grape
Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety that can be used to produce both blending and varietal wines. Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French word for a blackbird, which is most likely a reference to the grape’s color. Merlot is a common grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which appears to be higher in tannin, due to its softness and “fleshiness” combined with its earlier ripening.

Tuscan wine is produced in the Tuscany region of Italy. Tuscany, located along the Tyrrhenian coast in central Italy, is home to some of the world’s most renowned wine regions. The Sangiovese grape is used to make Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, while the Vernaccia grape is used to make the white Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Tuscany is also known for its dessert wine, Vin Santo, which is made from a variety of grapes native to the region. There are 41 Denominazioni di Origine Controllata (DOC) and eleven Denominazioni di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) in Tuscany (DOCG). In the 1970s, a new category of wines known as “Super Tuscans” arose. These wines were not made according to DOC/DOCG regulations, but they were of good quality and sold for a high price. Many of these wines have since become cult classics. Many of the original Super Tuscans now qualify as DOC or DOCG wines as a result of the reformation of the Italian classification system, but some producers prefer the declassified rankings or the Toscana Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT) classification. Today, there are six sub-categories of IGT wines in Tuscany.
