Tasting Notes
The 2014 Villarei Albariño Sobre LIas has a medium yellow colour with golden hues.
On the nose the bouquet opens with citrusy notes, apricot, exotic fruit and some toasty notes. The 2014 Sobre Lias Albariño from Villarei unfolds further showing a richer, buttery character that comes from the fermentation in oak and the ageing on lees.
On the mouth, this unusual Albariño is unctuous and rich which complement nicely some of the fresher notes it presents on the nose.
The finish is persistent and elegant.
This is an incredibly interesting bottle given its price range.

Lees (fermentation)
Deposits of residual yeast and other particles in wine-making
In the wine world “lees” is the fancy name for dead, decomposed yeast mainly, and some other particles, that are left in the bottle after fermentation.
The lees are extremely important in the process of winemaking. The yeast decomposition, known in the wine world with the name of autolysis, is responsible for the development of those bready, fragrant, buttery notes we all love in great sparkling wines.
